NOTES:
In 1963, Rolex released the Cosmograph watch to measure and record elapsed time beginning with the reference 6239. This reference did not yet carry the name Daytona. It was powered by a Valjoux 72B manual wind column wheel chronograph movement, which Rolex reworked and improved internally. The watch had a tachymeter bezel and was fitted with pump pushers. Soon after, the introduction of the name Daytona was often seen on Rolex chronographs. This name came from the beach town in Florida, USA, where the famous Daytona race took place every year.
The reference 6262 replaced the 6239 and had the upgraded 727 caliber. It was produced only during about 1 year (1970-1971, Serial 2.2-2.5 million) which makes it the rarest steel pump button Daytona chronograph. The correct dial type for this reference has Daytona written in black and white graphics within the sub-dials.
