NOTES: This particular piece comes with its original papers.
In 1960, Rolex released the Cosmograph watch to measure and record elapsed time beginning with the reference 6239. This reference did not yet carry the name Daytona. It was powered by a Valjoux 72B manual wind column wheel chronograph movement, which Rolex reworked and improved internally. The watch had a tachymeter bezel and was fitted with pump pushers. Soon after, the introduction of the name Daytona was often seen on Rolex chronographs. This name came from the beach town in Florida, USA, where the famous Daytona race took place every year. In the late 60’s the 6240 was introduced with the addition of screw-down waterproof pushers and therefore carried the word Oyster on the dial. In 1971, two models were available: the 6265 with metallic bezel and the 6263 with the bakelite bezel. These two models had the 727 caliber and continued production all the way until 1987.
