The split-seconds function, a complication found in wrist chronographs, enables the measurement of intermediate times simultaneously with the chronograph function, ideal for measuring races. Invented by Louis Frédéric Perrelet, it allows for the detection and recording of two events with the same start but different end times. This is achieved through two superimposed chronograph hands. Initially, both hands move together, with the secondary hand hidden beneath the main one. Pressing a specific button, located in the crown, stops the secondary hand independently. This split-seconds function allows for split time measurement without interrupting the main chronograph hand's movement. Pressing the button again brings the secondary hand back under the main one, maintaining the primary time measurement.
